This is the end of my street, three days after the big snowstorm: This is the scene in my neighbor's backyard. Two weeks ago, all of the basements flooded on my street because the city forgot to snake out the storm sewer at the end of my street (something they themselves admit is a problem that requires attention every six months). W. Walnut Street's eastbound lane is falling apart in the 400 block. Richmond Street is falling apart near Chester...again. Where are the city services? As far as the snow is concerned, I called Public Works and got no answer, then spoke with someone at PCPD, who said they called out Public Works but they refused to pay weekend overtime. Basically, they left several streets (Hoyt, Meadow, Monroe, Hillside, and more) unplowed and hoped for the best. Let me tell you, pulling off of one of those unplowed streets after a major snowstorm is hard enough. It gets even worse when the sidewalk plow comes and covers the crosswalks with another foot of heavy snow. So I called Hal Werner, who got back to me a little bit after I left a voicemail. He said he would call city hall and find out from Public Works what was going on. Then I mentioned my neighbor's backyard. And the flooded basements on my street. He promised to follow up with me, but I don't expect much but lip service (not necessarily from him, from the higher ups). Can't say I didn't try...
